Children of the Desert Moon 2: Lady's Promise-On Sale Now!
Lady's Promise by GJ Woodrum Book 2 in the Children of the Desert Moon Trilogy Genre: Mainstream Epic Fantasy (GLBT themes) Heat Rating: Zero Fire Length: Grand Epic of 129,000 words Price: $8.00 Just released by Shadowfire Press Battles ensue when cultures collide. Blurb United by Goddess Moon, Yhnez and her tribe journey onward, drawn by the Seeing of the girl Tribe Mother who follows the pull she feels northward despite the fact that the other tribes are heading south as the Sleeping Season draws near. What of the red-eyes people from beyond the desert? With scant supplies and tempers flaring how can they hope to cross the trackless waste and discover what lies on the other side? Then there are the verritaym'i. Their raids are becoming more and more frequent and increasingly deadly. A chance encounter with them would be the end of Yhnez the Wander's entire tribe. What lies ahead for the Children of the Desert Moon and the red-eyes adventurers only the Goddess Herself knows. Excerpt Dohzhehn stared, eyes narrowed, at the onrushing verritaym'i. The predawn twilight meant he could clearly see their terrible aspects. Filthy, their weathered skins patterned with ridges of scars and fearsome designs painted on them—or rather—into their hides he realized, as they drew nearer. Barbaric savages. "Ugly brutes, aren't they?" Ahzholahn nodded, "Aye, that they are." "Dangerous, dangerous," Zhehrryhn murmured, his gaze falling on what Taizhehn was doing inside the concealment of the tent. "He has the training," Ahzholahn countered, "do not worry." Then Ahzholahn grinned fiercely and glanced at Taizhehn, who would remain hidden from their enemies until the last instant. "Be ready, little brother." Taizhehn's smile was no less vicious than his brother's as he clenched his left hand into a tight-balled fist. Energy crackled between his closed fingers, hot magenta and fuchsia tendrils that gave off such heat that a metalmage's forge was cold by comparison. Even his eyes, blood-red normally, had taken on a more brilliant hue as the boy worked the magic that was granted them by the blood of the Flame Lord's lineage. The boy coughed, spat, took a deep breath and exhaled slowly, feeling the potency of the flame increasing. He was feeling a little better this morning. But that was little comfort. Ehzhehl had always seemed better in the mornings—at first. Or perhaps the swallow of brandy— the stuff they called Shynthair's Blood after the name of the Flame Lord himself—Dohzhehn had made him gag down had done some good. A gust of wind whipped across the oasis, shaking the palms, raising a curtain of dust for an instant then falling off to a zephyr of breeze. The verritaym'i were nearly on them. The older pair of kehshehn'eh moved forward to meet their attackers as Zhehrryhn stepped back to guard his youngest kinsman. The khai'sho had moved nearer to the tent, the pair of them watching the approach of the dragonmen. Stormrunner was ready to attack these things should it prove necessary to protect his two-footed foal. The other khai'sho bared its fangs and stamped its feet at the foul odor coming off the two-legged beasts. With a dozen feet between them and the attackers, Taizhehn stepped out of the tent. Choosing his targets with care, he made a hurling motion. A ball of flame the size of a pebble flashed outward, incandescent, leaving a trail of hot air that screamed in its wake. Full in the chest, the tiny ball of dharmehl fire hit Sroth and he went up like an oil-soaked rag, Brud and Paug to each side of him, screamed at the searing inferno-heat that scorched them, burning the skin from the halves of themselves that had been nearest Sroth. They both ignited. First struck, Sroth crumbled as ashes to the ground, Brud and Paug joining him a heartbeat later. Taizhehn swayed, shook himself and slipped into the tent, hiding until the dizziness of powering so strong a blast faded. Memories of Lilac Comes out on Friday
Under my Vyktoria Howard pen name because it has a wee a bit of the naughty in it. Just a teensy smidge you understand. The publisher is Shadowfire Press>. Memories of Lilac isn't really naughty like Shaba'amlaillee, so those of you who don't like the heavily sexed up fiction so popular of late should still be able to read and enjoy this particular tale. The story is primarily a murder mystery, and it takes place in the same world as the Desert Moon books, though not in the land of the im'taym'i people. This story is set many years after those books, in the Serpent Empire that is still in its infancy during the time of Yhnez and her tribe. Now that I've mentioned Shaba'amlaillee, I still have no idea when/if that story will ever come out. The publisher has now had it under contract for a full two years and they seem to be parked on it with no sign of movement. Lots of smoke rising from that publishing house. Hi Piers even has some unfavorable comments on them. It's too bad really, they looked so promising when they began, and people I know have books with them too. Lady's Promise, the next book in the Children of the Desert Moon trilogy is out for edits. I dearly hope they don't find too terribly much wrong with it, but that novel wasn't even sent to a first reader so I've no idea how bad the typos are. My fondest wish right now is to be able to participate in NaNoWriMo, but my place of employment has put me on the weekend 'on call' list for the entire month of November. My ill fortune being what it is, that means I'll be called every weekend to come into the office to perform some task more properly suited to the talents of a trained chimp. Sad but true...
My novel, Children of the Desert Moon: Ladys's Daughter has already a full half as many copies in two weeks at Shadowfire Press as it did in over a year with the former publisher. I didn't truly expect that, but I can't say I'm in the least surprised either. The cover art on the book is superior to the cover it had previously, and I think that's some of the difference. A really good story I just read
This book impressed me with its world-setting, which is well thought out and detailed. The story also has a very a powerful ending. On a scale of 1-5 I'd give it a 4.5. Information taken from the publisher's website The Last Vhalgenn by Kayelle Allen Mainstream Fantasy http://www.shadowfirepress.comCan the Chosen One--the Vhalgenn--protect the royal heir without betraying her king? Blurb At birth, every king or queen in Qarth is given a royal companion of the opposite sex. To prevent the sowing of seed in the wrong field, the Vhalgenn are made incapable of bearing or fathering a babe early on. Lifelong companions, they’re sworn to fight back to back, side by side, to the death. Every Vhalgenn accepts the eventual marriage of the one they serve. Duty forbids their own marriage, but does not preclude time alone with the king or queen they love. Until the jealous queen of Kellindahr banishes her new husband’s Vhalgenn far from home and comforts. Later, fearing the queen will die in childbirth, her maidens call Raik back and beg her to run a desperate course to save the life of the king’s only heir. Raik must obey or watch the heir die. To save him she must outrun, outwit, outlast, and above all, survive. But to be the victorious Vhalgenn--must she betray the king she loves? How far will duty take her--and at what price? Yes I know, I said I'd keep in touch
But I have a really demanding job and I just can't get online as much as I'd like. My Desert Moon website is back up and you can see it here. You'll note I have cover art. Not from the place I submitted the book back in January, but from a new publisher that invited me to submit. I know the owners so, while they're very new, I have faith they will do their best for me. Children of the Desert Moon series submitted
I finally decided to move forward with sending the series out and I sent the books to Twilight Times Books which was the first place that had accepted Lady's Daughter in it's first incarnation. Lida Quillen even remembered me. Long story as to why she never published them, but to sum it up quickly she sold her company--not the nane-- to another publisher who subsequently did many authors dirty. (Anyone else remeber RFI West? *shudders*) I decided it was time to send the books out to someone that might actually publish them in something approaching a timely manner. I've already seen the contract and there are certain areas where it is far superior to my prior contract with the publisher I am no longer with. So here we go and Happy New Year. Let's hope the books find a good home. Current Mood: hopeful | | Thursday, August 16th, 2007 | | 9:31 am |
Terminated contracts
Through mutual agreement, my contracts for the Children of the Desert Moon trilogy with Mundania Press have been terminated. I can't say I'm unhappy about this. Now I have to decide what to do with the books. Most of the publishers out there are geared toward erotic romance which these books definately aren't. Maybe I'll just start a company and pub my own books. I wouldn't be the only author to do this. Comments? Thoughts? Info on publishers? Lady's Promise-No June Release
I have not heard anything from Mundania regarding the release date of Lady's Promise, nor have galleys arrived. I have also not received a reply from the publisher regarding when the galleys will arrive. I would say a June release will not occur at this point. When I hear anything I'll be sure to post an update. Current Mood: annoyedCurrent Music: Days and Days ~ Concrete Blonde | | Monday, April 30th, 2007 | | 5:26 pm |

Shaba'amlaillee receives 5 Angels From FAR
Five angels from Fallen Angel Reviews Shaba'amlaillee GJ Woodrum Silver Moon Erotic Books Available Now Electronic Page Count: 44 Shaba’amlaillee is an entirely different fantasy that is pulsating and loaded in energy. Kaevaer’s determination to locate his brother when he must face people who do not understand his demon features, is most commendable. I don’t think that I have read a fantasy book of this nature before and even though it carried some male/male interface, Ms. Woodrum crafts the scenes in good taste. Her characters are quite extraordinary and well composed, they make the story that much more interesting. The love scenes are filled with a hot electric charge. Ms. Woodrum allows the characters to come alive in this tale with a sprinkle of magic and sorcery. This is one entertaining story that I don’t think I will forget. Newest Review of Shaba'amlaillee
SHABA'AMLAILLEE G J WOODRUM June 2006 Silver Moon Erotic Books www.coyotemoonpublications.com E-Book $2.50 44 Pages Erotic Fantasy Rating: 5 Cups The description in this book is vibrant and addictive. I truly enjoyed this taste of something different in fantasy fiction. The book does contain Male/Male interaction. Tastefully written, yet still packing a punch, Shaba'amlailee’s erotic scenes really heat up. Carefully constructed characters and lands that are so easy to see is the sign of master penmanship. I can only describe this work as most fabulously unusual and a story that augers re-reading. Dare I say, demands it? My first review for Shaba'amlaillee
From Ann V at Colorful Reviews. *** As unusual a tactic as it might be, I'm going to start this review by talking about another author - Tanith Lee. Of all the deities in the writing pantheon, she is the only author to whom I light a candle. I mention Ms. Lee because no author's stories lightly receive from me a favorable comparison to her work. It wouldn't matter that I was the cover artist of the (gorgeous) image gracing your erotic short, Shaba'amlaillee [ http://www.coyotemoonpublications.com/?q=node/17]. It wouldn't matter that you'd favorably reviewed some of my work or that I have other covers out at Shaba's publisher, Coyote Moon Publications. So why, Ms. Woodrum, [ http://www.glendawoodrum.com] am I comparing your work in Shaba to that of an author I find damn near incomparable? To start with, Shaba, despite its short length, is a fantasy tale (equally sparse and sumptuous) set in a land that you've made both exotic and familiar at the same time. Kaevaer is a hero of unearthly beauty who travels through the harsh deserts of human lands in search of his banished brother. Marked by humans as a demon, it is a dangerous journey for him. You've populated the story with all the elements necessary for high fantasy. Since this is an erotic short and I don't want to give away too much plot, I'd like to focus instead on how you told Kaevaer's story - in rich, vibrant detail. I could feel the sand whirling around me and see its blood-red tint. Reading of the city, I saw its gilded spires and felt the relief it offered from the desert. In a word, I was transported into Kaevaer's world by the elegant narrative and description. Building a world and populating it with strong characters and a healthy plot in some 40-50 pages is not an easy feat. To layer over that a fluid complexity of language that sings to the reader - well, that, Ms. Woodrum, is what earned you the comparison. *** To say I'm stunned beyond all belief would be an understatement.
