I'd try to cheer you up, but that always ends in abject disaster. Usually it goes like this:

Distressed person: "Something terrible has happened!"

Myself: (trying to take the long view) "Well...at least you'll be dead in another few decades. At most."

Distressed person: "OH GOD!"

Myself: "What? What did I say?"

So I will studiously refrain from saying anything consoling, since it usually drives people to drink.

I'm already drinking, so can't be driven there.

I'm at a loss because of CMP folding. I had all this great stuff accepted and the hopes of so many people were riding on seeing their books out, and well... poof.

The situation makes me feel like a total idiot.

Hi Glenda,
Just a thought: there were a lot of projects on the go at CMP; I had three stories there. You might be in a good position to flog these ready-made anthologies elsewhere, with Mr. Osborne's permission and your market connections. You could act as an agent for these stores for the period of perhaps a year, at which point, if you haven't found a market, the author can re-market the story herself. I know that I would be interested in doing this rather than having to send them out again. Besides, response times can be a year so I don't think this would put me too far behind on reselling them.

I'm out of the editing game. This is the fourth publisher I've invested a lot of time with to see it go under. I just spent two years editing a bunch of books that will not see print and the pain and anguish that has caused me-- including a friendship that was dear to me-- is not something I'm willing to go through yet again.
